2020 Renovations & Room Reveals!!

Room Makeovers

Looking back on 2020, I could not believe that we did more than a dozen room reveals, including a full restaurant makeover! Navigating this year, raising our first baby during a pandemic, the uncertainty with our small businesses…it was a lot. But throughout, I repeated my word of the year: Quality. I set out in 2020 to make quality content, and am really proud of the spaces Mr. Yolo and I created this year. We were forced to slow down, pivot, and re-think our businesses. Since we were staying at home more we focused on making a backyard oasis and creating more spaces in the house for Baby Yolo. While our rentals were guest-free, we touched up, renovated, and upgraded them; looking ahead to a day when people would travel again. We reached out to local businesses that closed their doors and offered pro bono design work to get customers excited for the day doors could reopen. The slower pace allowed me to be more thoughtful with my design, try new paint colors, and be more intentional with the details. In the end, I feel like the work we did this year, more than ever, is a true reflection of my design aesthetic and direction. Let’s take a look back!

My First big reveal in January was Baby Yolo and her Schoolhouse nursery!

Experimenting with Paint Colors!

BARNHOUSE EGGPLANT BATHROOM

2020 is the year I experimented with paint colors outside of my comfort zone: Eggplant, Mocha, Orange!! These three rooms were the most loved and shared of the year. I have enjoyed using color so much this year! And I really feel like I have found my design voice through combining colors and pattens, then topping it off with my thrifted finds.

MODERN MOCHA BATHROOM REFRESH

I was blown away by how many of you used this Modern Mocha color in your homes. It truly elevated this bathroom at our vacation rental so much. I could live in this bathroom 🙂

ORANGE ROOM MAKEOVER

Never did I ever… think that I would paint a room orange! I am happy I did not limit myself to colors I was comfortable with this year. I used inspiration, like a rock on the beach, to create the color story for this room. And the result was a wonderfully rich room in our duplex getaway.

Rental Kitchen Renovations

DUPLEX AFFORDABLE KITCHEN REVEAL

We finished up the Duplex kitchen while we were waiting for Baby Yolo (she came 12 days after here due date!) And then shared all the details of the project here.

BUNGALOW KITCHEN RENOVATION REVEAL

One of our bigger home projects of the year was renovating the kitchen at our Bayview bungalow rental. When the cancellations from the pandemic left us with an empty house, we decided to invest in a refresh so future guests would be excited to stay here. We created some amazing partnerships with brands on this project, like Rust-Oleum and their amazing floor paint, which sparked a partnership to help makeover local businesses who closed their doors during the pandemic…

Local Business Makeovers

LAZY SUSAN RESTAURANT REFRESH

Our biggest undertaking of the year was making over a local restaurant! It was a project I had always dreamed of doing. We approached an amazing woman-owned brunch spot in our neighborhood, and pitched the idea of a refresh to get customers excited to return when businesses reopen. It was a lot of work, but Mr. Yolo and I are so proud of how it turned out, and thankful to our sponsor Rust-Oleum whose support allowed us to do the work pro bono.

414LORAL FLOWER SHOP REVEAL

After the Restaurant Refresh, we reached out to 414loral and offered to help bring their flowershop to life! We have more business makeovers in the works for 2021 and can’t wait to share!

The Barnhouse

BARNHOUSE BLACK SHED

Since we spent so much time at home this year, we made our home the best place to be. First, Mr. Yolo built the sweetest shed/workshop in the backyard…

BARNHOUSE BACKYARD DINING AREA

…Then he built a pergola, so I could create a backyard dining oasis.

BARNHOUSE READING CORNER & DIY PETAL STAMPED WALL

I created a little corner in the loft for Baby Girl to play, and had fun getting creative with a stamped wall.

BARNHOUSE OLIVE PANEL LIVINGROOM

I finally figured out what was was missing in our living room (stay tuned for a paneling post!)

BARNHOUSE PORCH

And to wrap up 2020, we finished staining and painting the porch and decorated for the holidays!

Happy New Year All!!! I can’t wait to share all that we have in the works for 2021!!!

Love all the color. I need to venture into more color too. Thanks for the inspiration. After all, it’s just paint.

Curious if you are still planning to post details on the shed DIY. I am looking to do something similar and am interested to hear any tips you can offer.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!
