20 times I’ve designed a room with Wallpaper!

My sisters and I were looking through old photos, and I found this photo of me playing dress-up at around 5 years old, in my childhood home—decked out in the most quintessentially ’70s/’80s wallpaper. Looking at the photo, I remember those quirky details, like those roosters (or were they hens?) from the wallpaper behind me. My sister remembered the kitchen changing from plaid or gingham wallpaper, to sweet flowers, the sweet little flowers. The whole house was covered in wallpaper!
As trends changed, my parents decided renovated our home, swapping all that wallpaper for crisp white walls. All the color and wallpaper, gone…white walls everywhere! When I started designing spaces, I began with white walls. Probably because it was the trend, but mostly because it felt safer than taking chances with color and patterns. However, I have gotten more confident in my designs, I find so much joy in taking more risks, creating rooms with life and character—even if it means it someday, someone will say it looks soooo ‘2024’, ha!
Looking at that kid photo I realized that the wallpaper designs I create now resemblance to those from my childhood home. Maybe fewer hens 😉 but the essence, the stripes and florals, are still there! A sweet little reminder that some designs hold a timeless charm.
