MY DIY | Mercury Glass Airplant Ornament
DIY KITS, DIY PROJECT, Holiday DIY, Home DIY
I don’t have an Xmas tree yet, but the ornament making has begun! You all know how I love my airplants holders (I made one a pineapple one here and a cement one here) so why not create a little winter wonderland for them. I am in love with these Hanging terrariums from Darby Smart, and wanted to give them a holiday makeover by creating a mercury glass finish on the outside, and a little faux snow on the inside. I love the textured looking glass and am already dreaming up other ways to use the technique, it’s so easy! All the supplies and steps after the break…
What you need:
Looking Glass Spray Paint
Hanging bubble ornament
Airplant
Snowflakes
Water in mist spray bottle
Rubbing alcohol
Get all the supplies in a Darby Smart Kit here!
What to do:
Spray your ornament with water (make sure it’s a mist spray bottle)
While the water beads are on the ornament, spray on a thin later of looking glass spray (some may run down the side, that’s ok, you can clean up with rubbing alcohol)
Let it dry for 5 min, then repeat minting the water and the spray paint on the ornament a second time. Let dry.
Put some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and light rub the ornament to remove the excess paint on the glass. You can also clean up any area where there paint pooled.
Add the snow and airplant. Done!
