[InStyle DIY] Nautical Button Earrings
Uncategorised
Nothing says Summer like touch of nautical in your ensemble. During these hot hot July days, I have been keeping my accessories simple and just sporting these quick and simple earrings made with buttons from M&J Trimming. This is definitely a DIY EVERYONE can do, and feel free to experiment with different size and shape buttons!
Make sure to pick up the August issue, and if you make your own pair email

Omg what a fabulous idea! I will definitely do this!
cuuuuuuuuute…
great, cute and easy!
When I was looking for DIY bits and bobs to customise items for Oxfam to sell a few months ago I saw some buttons that I thought would make great earrings and this is exactly what I wanted to do with them. The problem was they had a bulky back on them (the loop you sew through) – do you have a clever solution?

Another great DIY, Jenni!
I had a same idea when I saw some really cute buttons at JoAnns. I just removed button shanks and then glued posts to their backs. Mine were strawberries, dragonflies and acorns.
LOVE your nautical earrings!

i want to make my own button earrings also, but where do i get the earring backs?
love it!
Katie, The loop on the back of a button is called the shank. All you have to do is cut it off. A good pair of wire cutters or a dremel tool will do the trick.
they look great !
Such a great idea! Thanks!
