I SPY DIY DESIGN | Baby Girl Nursery Makeover
DIY PROJECT, Home DIY
I am super lucky that an amazing couple, Kristin and Alan, came in to my life a year ago. They are two of the absolute sweetest people I have ever meet, so when I found out they were having a little girl, I offered to give the guest room in their condo a makeover to create a dream nursery for their first child.
This may be my favorite design project to date! So many “awwwws” and “could it be any cuter?” came out of this room. Kristin has an amazing eye for home décor, so we started by creating a joint Pinterest board so I knew her direction for the space.
Then one Sunday, we joined forces to paint. The room was already painted with HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY Paint in Icy Avalanche (HGSW1497). Kristin and Alan chose this product because they knew it would stand the test of the messiest child with its excellent durability.
HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams Icy Avalanche, a neutral light grey, was the perfect calming color for the majority of the room, but we wanted an accent wall to be the backdrop for the crib. Honestly, we did not really have a game plan for the wall, and started playing around with some designs with painters tape and debating over the colors. Then, I spotted an arrow design on a dresser they had thrifted and suggested amplifying it on the wall, and the couple was on board!
We drew guidelines, and then some serious math and measuring came into play to get the arrows spaced evenly. We picked a blueish gray (Desert Lake HGSW3295) from the same HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams Color Card as Icy Avalanche, Inspired Interiors, because we knew both colors would complement each other to create a tranquil bedroom for the new little one.
This color was just a little darker so the pattern would pop without being too stark of a contrast, and I could not be happier with how the wall turned out. We loved the color so much that Alan painted the entry way to the room and one more wall with the blue/grey shade. It’s the perfect color to pair with the pink and teal accents in the room.
After the painting was complete, the couple headed off to their baby moon for a week, and I got to work decorating the space. The couple also loves antiquing, which was a dream for me, because I love finding one-of-a-kind pieces when decorating. After filling the space with thrifted treasures, I had a few additional DIY ideas up my sleeve. Scroll down for all the pictures and details!
