DIY DRINKS | Pineapple & Blood Orange Spicy Jalapeño Tequila
DIY PROJECT, Eats DIY, Home DIY
I am pretty sure nothing is more delicious than a spicy jalapeño margarita. It brings all the feel goods of hot Summer days or vacations in Mexico. I have been wanting to try to infuse my own tequila for a while now, but was waiting for it to warm up. When I saw blood oranges at the fruit stand, the wait was over. I had already found the glass bottles a while back a thrift store, the wide opening is perfect for adding fruit, (I found the TEQUILA one on Etsy) so all that was left to do was adding the fruit to blanco tequila and waiting a few days. My favorite part of this project is that it’s all about experimentation. Everyone has a unique palate is, you should test it everyday by spooning out a little and tasting. (The best kind of taste-testing!)
Here are some tips for trying this at home:
– Use a jar with a wide opening so you can easy remove the fruit. You may want to remove the jalapeño first, but leave the more mild fruit in for additional days.
– If you are using a thrifted jar, make sure to sterilize it in the dishwasher. And make sure to thoroughly wash your fruit.
– If you LOVE spice, leave the seeds in the jalepeno, if you are looking for a less spicy tequila, cut them out before adding.
– I like to use Blanco tequila because it looks lovely while infusing, and it tastes great in cocktails like margaritas.
– After combining your ingredients let sit for 24 hours, then taste test. Remove the jalapeño if it’s spicy enough. If not, shake the bottle to break down the fruit and let sit for another day.
– I would suggest leaving the jalapeños in for 1-2 days, and the pineapple for 3-4 days
– Keep your bottle out of the sunlight, and in a cool spot.
– When you like the taste of your tequila, use a fine stainer to separate the liquid and then pour the tequila back into your bottle and refrigerate.
– Time to mix up a margarita!
Stay tuned because I am going to experiment with some custom margarita recipes next week!
