BARNHOUSE | Christmas Holiday Decor Tour 2021

DIY PROJECT

This year was all about simplifying our Christmas decor. Last year, I went all out because our house was being photographed for Better Home & Gardens Farmhouse Christmas issue. The shoot turned out beautiful, but I ended up with a lot of crispy garland and more stress then I wanted making the house “picture perfect”. This year, I hung a few wreaths, decorated a much smaller tree, and it felt so much better. And more me.

The preserved boxwoods from last year still looked great this year! I hung with some burlap ribbon. And the faux garland on the hood meant no cyprus falling into our food. Much better. The DIY dried oranges held up from last year too!

Our sweet Christmas tree. We cut down our own tree last year too, but the process definitely was quite a bit more stressful. Last year I was running around looking for the “perfect” tree because. I had to see every single tree on the farm, and at one point ditched Mr. Yolo and Lil’ Yolo to look at more…It was not my finest moment. This year, I changed my mindset, and focused on what’s important, my family. Lil’ Yolo and Mr. Yolo really liked this tree in the first area we looked at, done and done. We cut it down, and spend the rest of time drinking cider. It was wonderful. We got home and put up the tree, and it was truly perfect.

New stocking were hung! I searched “Kilim Stockings” on Etsy, and found these.

I styled up my favorite spot in the house, the mudroom, with magnolia branches, the DIY is here. It looked like this for about 30 min, then was filled with boots and coats again.

That’s it! I thought about hanging garland on the stairs, and stringing lights outside…but life happened, and I just decided this was all I was doing this year, and that’s ok. Merry Christmas!
