We are back with the latest installment of One Material, Two DIYs! These may be two of the most fun projects I have ever worked on. I’m super excited to share them with you! The challenge: create two DIYs using Cotton yarn. The options are limitless considering the versatility of the material, but I ultimately picked a pair that really showcased its vibrant hues . First up, a wall hanging to decorate a blank wall in the studio. This wall hanging could not be easier to create (albeit a little time consuming) and the final result packs such a punch of color on the wall. Next up, making a colorful teepee that can put a giant grin on any three year olds face. After testing the market, I am happy to report I succeeded! My friend’s little girl did a happy dance and then tucked herself away in it and colored all afternoon. The added touches of cotton yarn pom poms really took the cuteness factor to a whole new level! Miss Emerson gave it a huge smile and two enthusiastic thumbs up…and my heart melted. Keep reading for steps and supplies…

Cotton Yarn Wrapped Teepee
What you need:
Cotton yarn
Drill
Fabric Glue
Scissors
3 yards of cotton jersey stretch fabric
Four pieces of 5ft x 1.5in wood
Three 4ft dowels
4in wood screws

What to do:
First, tie on your first piece of yarn and then start wrapping it around the wood. To switch colors, tie the end of the yarn you were wrapping to the next color of yarn, then continue wrapping until you cover most of the two front wood pieces.
When you reach the end, knot off the yarn by tying to the last loop. Reinforce loose knots with glue.
Next, assemble the teepee by crossing the two pieces of wood and drilling through them and into the dowel. Repeat on the back of the dowel to create the basic structure of your teepee.
Next cut a piece of fabric (I used a cotton jersey stretch material) that will be the teepee cover.
Glue each of the long ends of the fabric around each of your remaining dowels. Let dry.
Drape over the teepee structure, then drill through the bottom of each piece of wood into the dowels.
