Charcoal Bungalow Tiled Bathroom Reveal!!
Before & After, Room Makeovers, SHOP, Uncategorised
The Charcoal Bungalow renovation was a whirlwind project!! With just a couple of weeks to renovate this bathroom before our new tenants moved in, we had to hustle. But the end result? Such a beautiful transformation!
This renovation kicked off because of some cracked floor tiles. This was the very first bathroom Mr. Yolo renovated about eight years ago, back when he bought the Charcoal Bungalow. Since then, we’ve made a few updates—like painting the walls green and swapping out hardware—but the floor tiles were a huge problem. The click and lock tiles had cracked because they don’t require grout, and of course, the product was discontinued, so there was no way to replace. So we wanted to upgrade to something more resilient.
We teamed up with The Tile Shop again on this project, and as soon as I walked into the store, I was smitten with the Kasbah Cross and Star tile in Terracotta. I’d seen similar looking tiles before, but this one is an amazing price, and has a porcelain finish that mimics clay. Porcelain is perfect for a bathroom, especially in a short-term rental where durability is clutch.
For the walls, I decided to go bold with subway tiles. If you have been around here for a bit, you know I love using affordable tiles in a unique pattern. I chose Villa subway tiles in the white and warm grey colors and played around with a few different patterns. I shared four of them in this reel , you all weighed in and I went with a plaid pattern with vertical and horizontal stripes. If you follow on stories, you might have seen Mr. Yolo’s initial tile mishap. No worries—we fixed it quickly, and the final result is stunning! The pattern adds a ton of visual interest, especially around the toilet area.
And the toilet wall? It’s a total showstopper, with the tile pattern really shining through. And that sage green toilet from Kohler, It’s an unexpected and delightful touch! Above the toilet, I created a mini gallery wall with art that ties all the colors together. The mix of sage, terracotta, and warm gray tiles makes the bathroom feel cohesive.
The floor tiles? Absolutely gorgeous! They look worn and handmade, even though they’re porcelain. I’m so thrilled with how they warm up the space. Before, the room felt cool with the old tiles, but the new terracotta and warm gray tiles, combined with the beige walls, have made it feel so cozy and inviting.
This Kohler vanity is a favorite of mine, with its spacious pull-out cabinets. We found a matching tower on Amazon that fits perfectly for towel storage. I opted for lighter woods to keep the small bathroom feeling open and airy. The squiggly mirror adds a touch of fun to the room. Brass accents in the lighting and faucet bring an extra layer of warmth to the room.
For the shower area, we didn’t have time to replace the surround, but we lifted the curtain rod to add a dramatic touch. Instead of a traditional curtain, I went with a fun block print curtain, hung high to enhance the dreamy vibe in the bathroom.
The tile truly steals the show in this space. It’s amazing how both the floor and wall tiles transformed the bathroom, making it visually stunning despite its small size. I’m over the moon with how it all came together! Let me know what you think in the comments and if I picked the tile pattern you wanted!
