Backyard Fall Sitting Area with Hanging Lanterns

DIY PROJECT

Fall is here in Wisconsin! Now that the weather is changing I wanted to create a cozy, sitting area at our Duplex. Our guests have been loving the outdoor spaces this year, and we have a little sitting area under a gazebo we put up a few years back. I was thrilled when I found these Rattan LED Lanterns from the Better Homes & Gardens line, and thought it would be so fun to try hanging them. The come with artificial flicker candles inside – so perfect for evenings in the backyard. DIY TIP: To achieve this look, set some rope at varying lengths to hang the lanterns, and then put the battery powered candle on timer mode to turn on when it gets dark.

A few other new items like the Loveseat and Pillow, are perfect for snuggling up as the weather turns a chillier.

Nothing says September more than Mums! I got a trio in autumnal colors to spice up our planters. I really enjoy creating levels by putting some plants in standing planter, with some sitting on the patio. I added another in a footer planter on the side-table. The pop of color is perfect for the more neutral furniture in the space.

I always have good luck finding picnic baskets at Goodwill, and I love to use them as decor, inside and outside! Set a few out as storage, and to add some texture to a space. Or I also think they would look really pretty on a porch stacked with a bunch of pumpkins too!
