ASK THE EXPERT | How to Decorate a Blank Wall

Ask the expert, DIY PROJECT, Uncategorised
With a blank wall in need of decorating and a little inspiration guiding me, I decided to have a go at making some dip dye art. Lucky for me, Interior Design guru and Marketing specialist Chelsea Matthews was in town from LA and stopped by to help out and give some tips on decorating a bare wall.

What you need: Watercolor Paper, Tie-Dye, 3 buckets, water, frames
CHELSEA’S TIP: Everyone loves an Art Wall Cluster, but in small spaces in can feel a little too busy and cluttered. For smaller spaces, select 3-4 pieces of art and arrange in even patterns (all in a row or in a square shape!). These clean lines will feel more open & inviting
STEP 1: Fill your buckets half way with water, pour your dye in each and mix. We went with three colors: Grey, Yellow and Blue
STEP 2: Next, dip your paper into the dye. Let sit for 5 second then remove.

CHELSEA’S TIP: If your room is already full of fun color, bring in softer colors and tones in your artwork – such as all black and white art in gold frames, or soft pastels and watercolors. This will avoid a room that feels to busy and overwhelmed.

STEP 3: Let dry
STEP 4: Dip again until you achieve your desired color. After we dipped the bottom 2 times, we dipped again higher to create an ombre effect.
STEP 5:  Frame and hang
CHELSEA’S TIP: A cheap frame doesn’t have to mean a cheap look! You can find inexpensive black and white frames at most art stores, and spray them any color you want. Also, for fun flair, use materials like wallpaper to create a printed matte around your photo or art piece, or even use the wallpaper as the art itself! Most wallpaper stores will give you free samples that fit a frame just perfectly.
