MY DIY | Pom-Pom Sweater

DIY PROJECT, Fashion DIY

Hey All! Excited to be DIYing with the amazing Refinery 29 (check out the post here). For my first project I figured, why not add some fun to a fall sweater (inspired by this photo), and what can put you in a more jovial mood then pom poms! With a few stitches you can give a basic sweater an upgrade, and create an eye catching item to sport as the weather turns chilly. Warning: admirers will ask to touch.

Supplies

Sweater
Needle and tread
Pom Poms
How to:
1. Thread your needle, then tie a knot at the end of the thread.
2. Start on the inside of your sweater and stitch up through the center of the pom pom, then back down through the pom pom and the sweater. Repeat 2-3 time to secure the pom to the sweater.
3. On the inside of the sweater double knot the two ends of the thread. Trim excess thread. First pom pom done!
4. Continue to sew on pom poms in lines on the sleeve. Stagger ever other line, or sew on in a random pattern.
5. After you finish the front, cover the back of the sleeve.

This is really cute and photographs well, but I wonder if it would be awkward to wear—not just from the people touching it.

Might just have to try it out and see. =]

  31. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% positive. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Adorable! This is going on my to-do list immediately. May I ask where you got the sweater?

    Thanks : )

  36. Jessica says:

I was at the Gap today and found the perfect sweater! It is very similar in color to yours and the sleeves fit snugly so I think it will work well with this application. For those of you who are looking to do this DIY yourselves grab one from the site while you still can!
