A couple weeks back, I was got the amazing opportunity to host a DIY workshop for some of the super talented designers of Minted’s newest feature, printed fabric.  We got to play with all their new textiles to create one of my favorite past DIY projects, an Envelope Laptop Case. I have to admit, I was pretty blown away by what these women created, the mixing of patterns was  incredible.  I  whipped up one of my own, using this ridiculously cute print. Although I will admit, the options made it tough to pick!! What’s your fave? Step and supplies after the break..

The details: Make your own dip dyed painter here!

What you need:
Your choice of amazing fabric from Minted
Felt cut to size
Ribbon
Crafting slide buckle
Fabric glue
Marker
Scissors
Ruler
Paint brush
Laptop

What to do:
Follow the step below, or watch my tutorial here!
Lay the laptop flat on the felt, and use a marker to trace around the computer. Remove the laptop, and place it directly above the outline you have just created to make a new outline. Repeat this step once more so that you have a column of three rectangles that are equal to the dimensions of the laptop.
The side panels are created by dividing the length of the laptop in half.  For example, my laptop is 11”, so I made the side panels 5.5” long. Make the guides at a 45 degree angle stemming from the middle rectangle. Cut the felt template out.
Layout your favorite fabric from Minted to create the outside of the case; I used this colorful print. Place the felt on top of the fabric and use your marker to create an outline that is 1” wider than the felt outline. Cut around the new outlines.
Snip the corners the inside corners of the material, them fold the excess 1″ of material over and glue to the felt.
Cut a piece of material to cover the inside flap,  and glue to the felt.
Take your ribbon of choice and wrap it around the case to guarantee that you have enough material. Use fabric glue to attach the ribbon to the back of the case. With the ribbon that is peaking out from the bottom of the case, weave the crafting slide through. Secure the slide in place by applying fabric glue to the ribbon and folding it up towards the case.
Slip the ribbon from the top through the slide to fasten the case.
