It’s award season, and the big day is coming up next weekend, The Oscars! Ok, I am going to admit, I have not seen most (or any) of the movies this year…but that doesn’t mean I can’t still get a crew of friends together and gawk over the gowns, right?? If you are hosting, and still looking for the perfect snack to serve, might I suggest some uber amped up golden popcorn and bubbly? I mixed together every edible gold candy I could find: stars, beads, and my secret ingredient, ebible 24 K gold leaf covered mini Kit-kat bars, and then added more white chocolate to create the most decadent popcorn possible. Put your salty sweet snack in cute popcorn boxes and up the luxury factor by serving with a chilled glass of Sterling Brut Sparkling Wine, the perfect pairing with its notes of caramel that balance out its fruity flavors, and you have a party! Recipe after the break…

What You’ll Need
1 2/3 cups sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup light-color corn syrup
1 teaspoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla
Popcorn
8 oz. white chocolate
Gold Sprinkles
Mini White Chocolate Kit Kats
Gold Leaf Sheet
Baking Sheet with Parchment Paper
How To
Step 1: Butter the sides of a heavy 2-quart saucepan. In the saucepan combine sugar, water, corn syrup, vinegar, and salt. Over medium-high heat until mixture boils, stirring to dissolve sugar (about 6 minutes).
Step 2: Reduce heat to medium; continue boiling at a moderate, steady rate, stirring occasionally, until the syrup is at hard-ball stage, about 20 minutes. (Hard Ball Stage: syrup will form into hard balls when dropped into cold water)
Step 3: Remove saucepan from heat, and stir in vanilla extract (or flavoring of choice). Prep a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 4: Pour syrup over popcorn, coat evenly, and then spread the popcorn out onto the baking sheet. Set aside to let cool.
Step 5: Place white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, and slowly melt chocolate in intervals of 15 seconds, stirring between each, until smooth. Drizzle chocolate over the cooled popcorn, and while the chocolate is still warm, add gold sprinkles.
Step 6: Using a small paint brush, slowly and careful, pull off pieces of the gold leaf sheet and attach to mini Kit Kats.
Step 7: Once popcorn bark has set, add in golden Kit-kat bars and serve in popcorn boxes. Enjoy!
