Last weekend, my family and I had an end-of-the-summer BBQ and my little sister whipped up her go-to dish, veggie pasta salad. It was a hit, and she was telling me that it was simple enough for even for me to make. So when Barilla® reached out and asked me to make a pasta dish to promote their 11th annual Go Orange to End Hunger™ campaign, I had my recipe ready! One in five New Yorkers is food insecure. That’s why Barilla is joining Food Bank For New York City to rally New Yorkers to join in volunteering, donating and advocating for neighbors in need.
For my pasta recipe, I switched things up a little, putting in my personal favorite veggies, and opting for the gluten-free pasta, which tasted exacting like regular pasta (and cost the same!) which is a huge win for people like me who are trying gluten free, but still need their pasta. I was so happy with how simple this was to make and how delicious it tasted, even my sister said she was impressed!
Check out the recipe after the break. And get involved with Go Orange to End Hunger™ by volunteering at the Food Band for New York City this week, donating (more information on how here) and/or advocating with #GoOrangeWithBarilla on social media. In addition to the 500,000 pasta meals that Barilla will be donating in support of Go Orange, the company will donate an ADDITIONAL pasta serving for each person who donates, advocates or signs up to volunteer, up to one ton! Although my sister and I thought we were synchronized swimming stars when we were younger, sadly we never made it to the Olympic Gamess. So instead, we get to enjoy the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, snacking on homemade sweet potato fries and sipping ice-cold Coca-Colas…sounds like a #ThatGold moment to me! Coca-Cola has been a worldwide sponsor of the Olympic Movement for more than 80 years and this year, they are shining a light on the very things the Olympic Games inspire by celebrating the happy and humorous moments that go beyond the podium.
If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll know that cooking with my sister is my #ThatsGold moment. And if you have been following for awhile, you know that DIY in the kitchen is a bit out of my wheelhouse! With that, my sister went simple and taught me how to make Sweet Potato Fries with a couple accompanying dips. Honestly, I am all about the small achievements in life, because I have successfully made these quite a few times now. That sound like reason enough to celebrate for me! So today is your lucky day, because if you want to enjoy your snack in the most decadent way possible, we are giving away one #ThatsGold Coca-Cola bottle. It’s beautiful, one-of-a-kind and completely covered in gold crystals. To enter, share your #ThatsGold moment with me and @CocaCola on social media with the tag #ThatsGold and #ispydiy. We will DM the winner at the end of the week, and hope to keep inspiring everyday moments turned gold!
Sweet Potato Fries + Chipotle mayo & Spicy Siracha Ketchup recipe after the break! (more…)
A month ago my little sister, Sarah, moved home after living abroad for two years, and I could not be more excited to have her back! It’s funny how well we get along, considering we are opposite in pretty much every way, ha! For example, I use the oven to store miscellaneous items (like shoes), and she loves coming up with new recipes in the kitchen. She is always telling me how she can teach me a few easy things to make.
So when Coca-Cola asked me to share a #ThatsGold moment I decided to take my little sister up on an afternoon of cooking, because even if my meal did not win any gold stars, hanging out with my sister is a win in my book.
One thing my sister and I can always agree on is our common love for pizza. So I asked her to come over to teach me how to make a homemade slice so I can prep for our annual Olympic Games home viewing party (and by party, I just mean us pretending to stick the vault landing in my living room). Coca-Cola has been a worldwide sponsor of the Olympic Movement for more than 80 years, and for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Coca-Cola is shining a light on these very moments that are happy, humorous and positive – those times you feel like you’ve won a gold medal!
Whether it’s something small like cooking with a family member, or splashy and exciting! When you do something positive, #ThatsGold.
After a trip to the farmer’s market, we came home with a ridiculous amount of beautiful peppers, which yielded the Tri-Pepper Triangle Pizza. Did we think we were brilliant, yes. Did we use four pepper instead of three, yes…but it’s important not to get caught up on the details. The important thing is that I had such a fun time spending the afternoon with Sarah and now I have all the spices I could ever need, #ThatsGold. AND, my little sister learned how to dice peppers while smiling and to pose while eating pizza, I think she has a new found respect for blogging!
Now check out the recipe after the break!
