BEFORE & AFTER BATHROOM| EP #1 MY FLIPPIN’ FRIENDS

DIY PROJECT, Home DIY

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend! It was 80 degrees in Milwaukee, and I spend as much time as I could outside, soaking in the sun. Also, thanks to everyone who has reached out about updates on My Flippin’ Friends, it makes my heart happy that you are excited about the show! We got an update and HGTV will be re-airing the pilot episode on April 28th at 11am CT/Noon EST, and then will be making a decision if we get a season in May…yes, the wait game is killing me!!! But if you all could tune in or set your DVRs and watch within 48 hours that would be amazing! They are going to factor in the ratings for both showings.
Now onto the upstairs bathroom renovation! The bathrooms were nasty, and needed to be completely gutted and redone. When we reconfigured the upstairs, I decided to create a landing and have the bathroom open to both the bedrooms instead of making an en suite for the master bedroom.  I loved the idea of making this room an oasis. One of the great things about being in Wisconsin, is that we are the home for a bunch of amazing companies, one being Kohler, and they were excited to be a part of the pilot and work with us to create this bathroom. I am in love with thier brushed gold, it’s so modern and lux looking. The plan for the space was black & white with pops of gold and greenery.

Our tile budget was tight, so instead of more statement patterned tile,  I picked a classic oversized subway tile and laid out in a crosshatch pattern with a dark grout for a graphic impact.  Lots of plants added a little life to the tiled bathroom.

I originally wanted a double vanity, but we ended up carving out a corner of the bathroom so the washer and dryer could be on the second floor. Even though we lost a few feet in the bathroom, everyone who saw the house loved the second floor laundry.

A peek at the laundry nook outside the bathroom. I found this door for $5 at ReStore, and knew it would be perfect to hide the stackable washer/dryer.

Remember this DIY wooden ladder ?! A coat of spray-paint later, and it was the perfect towel holder for staging.

There were 3 layers of different tile on the floor! The demo took forever because the guys kept uncovering more and more. So glad this bathroom is gone!

I love your new bathroom…did you get rid of the shower??? I still have the original claw foot tub in my home. It was built in 1928 and has been in my family for over 60 years

    1. Jenni says:

How cool! There is a rainhead above the tub, you would just need a curtain to use it 🙂

You really transformed the space – it was hideous before! WOW! Some of that old tile is reminding me of what’s in our house. We have a lot of old bathrooms (5!!!) that need to be ripped out one by one and redone. It’s an old tudor house and while most of the bathrooms are in usable shape, they all need to be gutted. It’s a HUGE project though, so I’m hoping to start with one and then go from there. Subway tile all the way! Haha!

I’m also obsessed with that ladder you made, so I’m going to need to get on that project soon!

    Thanks for sharing!
