The off-the-shoulder shirt is officially the must-have of the summer! If you haven’t purchased one yet, fear not, it’s easy to make one from a button-up you (or your guy) might have in the closet. Since it’s too nice outside to be indoors sewing, we are making a quick no-sew version that will have you back to BBQing in no time! A cotton button-up is great for this project because the fabric will hold the adhesive, and last through the wash. Quick Tip: Make sure to pick one that is a little oversized so you can pull it over your head. I loved using a super fun tropical printed men’s shirts for this DIY and most are cotton, so the fabric is breathable on hot summer days, and the designs are perfect for completing your festival-worthy outfit. Check out the video below to learn more about making your own, or get the supplies and step-by-step after the break:

What you need:
Cotton Tropical Printed Men’s shirt
Scissors
Fabric Glue
Ruler
Fabric pencil
1/2in elastic
Dressmaker pins

What to do:
1. Lay your button-up flat, and start by placing the ruler right below the the tips of the collar, and then mark a line from shoulder-to-shoulder.
2. Cut along the line, cutting off the top of the shirt, including the collar.
Next turn inside out, and place the elastic one inch from the top of the newly cut neckline, then fold over the inch of fabric and pin right below the elastic.
3. Continue pinning the elastic all around the neckline, leaving a little excess to pull tight after gluing.
4. Next apply the glue just below the pins, adhering the flap to the shirt. Let dry.
5. Once dry, pull the elastic tight to create a puckered neckline. You may want to try it on to get the perfect fit.
6. Triple knot the two ends of the elastic, then cut off the excess elastic ends. And done!
